Perry HS Names New Head Football Coach

With the first day of football practice less than a month away, Perry High School has hired a new head football coach.

Rob Porritt, who's been an assistant at Haslett for over a decade, is the Ramblers new head coach.  In an interesting twist, Poritt, who's been the Haslett head boys' basketball coach for 14-years, will remain as the head basketball coach with the Vikings.

Dexter HS Promotes JV Head Coach to Varsity Football Coach

Brian Baird is the new head football coach at Dexter.

Baird, who has served as the school's head JV coach, takes over for Tom Barbieri, who was fired at the end of the 2010 season.  Last year the Dreadnaughts finished 5-4.

Grandville HS Hires Former Assistant

Michael Lapciuk is the new head coach at Grandville High School.

Lapciuak, who began his career as a JV coach at Grandville, takes over for Scot Shaw, who resigned at the end of the season.

Merrill Rehires John Streeter as Head Football Coach

In December, John Streeter resigned as Merrill High's football coach, today he's back in the same position.

Streeter was 40-35 in seven years as head coach when he resigned.  According to Midland Daily News, Streeter came back after an outpouring of support from the community.

Royal Oak HS Hires New Head Football Coach

Royal Oak football players and fans are hoping that Jeff Hill is the answer to its recent woes.

Hill has been hired to replace Dave Potter, who didn't win a game in three seasons as head coach.

The Royal Oak Patch reports that the community is very excited about the new hire.

This year's game has been moved from Michigan State's Spartan Stadium to Central Michigan University.

Central Michigan to Host 2011 Michigan High School Football Coaches Association All-Star Game

The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association has announced that it's moving this year's East-West All-Star game from Michigan State's Spartan Stadium to Central Michigan on June 25th.

The game, which has been played at MSU for 27 years had to be moved when a cancelled 2010 U2 concert was rescheduled for the same dates as the all-state game.

“We are extremely pleased to play the 2011 MHSFCA East-West All Star Game at CMU on June 25,” said Gus Kapolka, MHSFCA All-Star Game director. “The location at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant will be excellent for fans of high school football in Michigan and the families and friendsof the players and coaches. As a part of our continued efforts to make the event a tremendous experience for the participating players and their fans and supporters, we have also partnered with CMU to host for the first time, the MHSFCA All Star Game Selection Show to announce the 44 East team and 44 Westteam players live on-line via streaming video.”

“Our entire campus community is very excited to partner with the MHSFCA on this event, and we look forward to providing an outstanding experience for the players, coaches and fans who will be visiting our campus this summer,” said CMU Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. “The All Star Game is a unique opportunity in the lives of these athletes, and we take great pride in having the opportunity to host the game, and the events surrounding it, in Mount Pleasant.”

Later this week, MHSFCA officials will announce the 88-player rosters.
